Ready, set, depreciate The economic stimulus package signed by U.S. President George W. Bush last month could be good news for anyone in the market for new equipment. The bill not only reduces the tax liability on new equipment purchased this year but also boosts the amount of the depreciation deduction that can be taken. Who turned out the lights? Millions of people. Organizers of "Earth Hour" are gearing up for the March 29 event. The World Wildlife Federation's first Earth Hour took place last year in Sydney, where 2.2 million people turned out lights for one hour, resulting in a 10 percent drop in energy use. For this year's event, Chicago, Copenhagen, Manila, Melbourne, Tel Aviv and Toronto have joined Sydney to stage one hour of darkness starting at 8 p.m. To learn more, click here.
