NACE '06 confab hits attendance record

More than 600 catering professionals attended the 2006 Educational Conference of the National Association of Catering Executives, setting an attendance record. The event took place July 16-19 at the Pointe South Mountain Resort in Phoenix.

The speaker lineup included Food Network chef Dave Lieberman, author of "Dave's Dinners." The keynote panel was made up of Sylvia Weinstock of Sylvia Weinstock Cakes in New York; caterer/event planner Dan McCall of McCall Catering in San Francisco; Scott Corridan of Corridan and Co. Design in Santa Barbara, Calif.; and Kimberly Schlegel of RSVP Party Services and Soiree Luxury Event Rentals in Dallas. Moderating the panel was Dallas-based event designer Steve Kemble.

Breakout sessions each day addressed industry-specific topics ranging from business, leadership and management skills to sales, marketing and customer service, to catering, special events and wedding-specific issues. The conference’s popular chef’s panel featured Arizona’s leading chefs, while the NACE Marketplace highlighted new products and services from business partners and local donors.

The 2007 conference is slated for July 15-18 at the Marriott Houston Westchase in Houston.
