IN MEMORIAM

KATHY NELSON, Ph.D, CSEP, CMP, a well-regarded professor of special events and entertainment at the UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA LAS VEGAS, died suddenly last week.

"The event industry has lost one of its finest," says Mary Litzsinger, CSEP, head of VP Events of Westlake Village, Calif. "Kathy was a leader in the special events industry and in particular in the role of educator. Her dedication to this industry was remarkable. She served as chair of numerous commissions for ISES at the International level as well as actively supporting the ISES Las Vegas Chapter. Kathy was a mentor to many of us who became Certified Special Events Professionals. She was an assistant professor at UNLV for 14 years. She authored and co-authored numerous books on a variety of topics for the event industry. She was always a smiling face at The Special Event conference as she loved sharing her experience with young as well as seasoned event professionals, or those just interested in the field. She was an amazing woman who loved her husband, Danny, and her beautiful daughter, Chloe. She had a great spirit, an infectious laugh, and she lived through her actions – not just her words. She was admired by her students as well as her peers. She was my dear friend."

A celebration of her life will held July 24 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Stan Fulton Building, 801 E. Flamingo Road, on the UNLV campus. For further information call 702/895-3930 …
