L.A. and the 2024 Olympics: Here Comes the Hard Part

Despite all its success with the 1984 Olympics Los Angeles faces challenges to win its bid for the 2024 games.

If Los Angeles can win the bid for the 2024 Olympic Games, a landslide of event business will head to the U.S. But even though L.A. already had venues in place from its 1984 stint as host city, the fight to win the bid has only just begun:

The selection of Los Angeles as the U.S. candidate to bid for the 2024 Summer Games caps a tumultuous month in which the city went from Olympic also-ran to serious contender. Now comes the hard part. Bid leaders boarded an overnight plane to Switzerland on Tuesday, headed for International Olympic Committee headquarters to begin an expensive, two-year competition against such formidable contenders as Rome and the early front-runner, Paris. – Los Angeles Times
