Who’s News in Special Events for June 21, 2018

Special events news this week includes a new director of events at Teneo Hospitality Group.

Minneapolis-based Teneo Hospitality Group, representing more than 300 independent and luxury branded hotels, resorts and DMCs, has named Ashley Crunstedt director of events.

New York-based DMC Briggs, part of AlliedPRA, announced that Greg Byrnes has joined the company as account executive.

Washington-based Magnolia Bluebird Design + Events has launched its corporate experiential events division, with veteran event planner Taren Bradley, CPCE, as director of corporate events.

Big DMC 360 Destination Group, headquartered in Irvine, Calif., has expanded its DMC operations in Texas, naming Gina San Agustin account executive in San Antonio.

LEO Events, headquartered in Memphis, Tenn., has announced a range of staffing changes. Trent Bynum has been named video editor; Madison Dunfield has joined the company as business development coordinator; and Ana Dyer has been named communications coordinator. Also, Airika Gigas has been promoted to vice president of events; Kelly Hunt promoted to producer, and Jon Brown promoted to manager of event operations.

CVB Visit Winston-Salem [N.C.] has named Karen Robertson as its new national sales manager, responsible for booking faith-based, multicultural, and association meetings and conventions.

As part of the Los Angeles-based California Science Center’s Discovery Ball, Bart Kresa, a Special Events Gala Award-winning designer based in Santa Monica, Calif., mapped images of King Tut on the space shuttle Endeavour, located at CSC (above). The 'King Tut: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh' exhibition is now on display at CSC. The Egyptian-themed Discovery Ball raised more than $1.6 million for the center.

Minneapolis-based MetroConnections has announced four staff promotions to vice president: Erin Thompson has been promoted to vice president of conference services; Bill Sather to vice president of technology solutions; Andrea Murphy to vice president, event services; and Rachel Portela to vice president of product services.

Blueprint Studios, headquartered in South San Francisco, has announced the launch of its Vident division. Based in Las Vegas, Vident provides design, fabrication, production and rentals to the trade show marketplace.

San Rafael, Calif.-based Marx Group has promoted Gloria Moreno to digital technology manager.

Foodservice contractor Centerplate has announced that Jeremy McKinnon has been named executive chef for the St. John’s Convention Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel has announced the appointment of Russell Shearer as executive chef.

SMG, the operator of the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County [Fla.] Convention Center, has appointed Jennifer Strum as marketing manager.
