Some 400 guests arrived at the 1926 Renaissance-Revival hotel, Casa del Mar in Santa Monica, Calif., to be transported into a Moroccan-market themed engagement party.
Exotic layered, patterned textiles and custom-fabricated Moroccan-inspired facades created the perfect backdrop for colorful orchids, peacock feathers and marigold floral arrangements, shapely mirrors and carved wood, geometric iron and brass accents, and scales stacked with piles of colorful spices.
Draping adds drama.
"We created an authentic Moroccan-market setting on two floors of hotel ballroom space in order to accommodate all guests while transforming the existing beach-themed hotel interiors with custom built facades, elaborate draping and inspired decor," the event team says.

A lovely detail.
Faced with a tight budget despite a huge increase in the guest list, the event team used focal points.
"Rather than draping both rooms entirely, we used lighting and eye-catching installations to take attention away from the conflicting existing architecture," they say. "Examples included a custom-fabricated grand Moroccan facade for the entry, draping of select sections of the room with layered ethnic-patterned textiles, and elaborate installations such as a mass of hanging thematic lanterns and a fully fabricated wall of brass scales placed with an array of bright Middle-Eastern spices."
