Special events business news this week includes a new social secretary at the U.S. White House

U.S. First Lady Melanie Trump yesterday named Anna Cristina Niceta Lloyd as the White House social secretary. In this role, Niceta Lloyd will oversee all social events and gatherings, from official state dinners, White House social calendar events and official policy-related events for the First Lady’s initiatives. A veteran of prominent D.C. catering company Design Cuisine, she assisted the State Department's Office of Protocol in executing state luncheons, summits and conferences under Secretaries Albright, Powell, Rice, Clinton and Kerry. Most recently she oversaw events during President Trump's 58th Presidential Inaugural Committee celebrations.

ILEA has announced a new global partnership with IBTM Events, which hosts exhibitions for the meetings industry. The collaboration between ILEA and IBTM offers ILEA the opportunity to continue to expand globally through access to the group’s portfolio of events, including an annual trade show in Barcelona as well as events in China, Latin America, Africa, Arabia, America and Australia, according to a statement from the association.

SEARCH, the charity dedicated to assisting event professionals in crisis, has launched a new fundraising initiative. Dubbed the SEARCH 100, the program aims to recruit 100 individuals and companies to donate $100 a month. For more on the SEARCH 100, click here.

CORT announced today that has opened a new distribution center in the Chicago metro area at 2141 Internationale Parkway #300, Woodbridge, Ill., which doubles the size of its previous facility. The outlet will serve customers across 12 Midwestern states as well as Toronto.

Big DMC AlliedPRA, based in San Diego, has acquired Destination Services Corp. of Denver. Both companies are listed on the latest Special Events “25 Top DMCs.”

German-based event powerhouse Vok Dams, recent winner at the 2017 Special Events Gala Awards, announced that it has added high-end pen, jewelry and leather goods brand Mont Blanc to its client list.
