Movie star showcases
Under the direction of Academy governor Jeffrey Kurland and longtime producer Sequoia Productions of Los Angeles, the decor will include 9-by-13-foot wooden boxes filed with layers of voile, film and backlit fabric to showcase images of stars from the Academy's collection. The media was treated to a preview yesterday at the event site, the Hollywood and Highland Center.

Wolfgang Puck Catering and Events to oversee menu
For the 21st consecutive year, Wolfgang Puck Catering and Events will oversee the menu at the Oscar Ball, which will feature more than 50 dishes. Here, superstar chef Wolfgang Puck (center) chats with a reporter while regional chef Michael Pennick (left) prepares a dish.

Other dishes will include smoked salmon "Oscars," chicken pot pie with shaved black truffles, a lobster BLT, beet latkes with duck pastrami and apple mustard, and Dover sole with orange miso vinaigrette. Modern vegetarian dishes featuring local organic produce will include parsnip soup with white chocolate, pears and 24k gold, and artichokes with asparagus, fava beans, baby beets and citrus vinaigrette.
