The client’s occupation as a plastics manufacturer became the inspiration for design in this small-but-incredible dinner party for 12 close friends and family members.
The first meeting with the family identified plastics as an important personal point of reference and something that could become a meaningful connection.
From there, it was easy to identify potential plastic design elements that could then be utilized to create a unique and memorable party setting.
The team created centerpieces from hundreds of plastic champagne glasses, all glued at their bases to large clear plastic balls.
Metal stems of bendable conduit were added to each plastic chandelier ball, to create the effect of giant plastic dandelions.
Inserted into dozens of the champagne glasses were small, round “fairy berries,” which glow on and off and create a magical look with minimal effort and expense.
At the base of the plastic chandeliers were shiny metal balls in patterns of silver, white and blue circles and squares.
These were complemented by votive candles and calla lilies with mirrored and metal table surfaces and smooth silverware designed to reinforce the sleek style that comes with an intense display of plastic.
Guests were seated on chiavari chairs with open backs to show off their clear plastic construction.
The table itself was custom made of aluminum and steel. Guests enjoyed a first course of pita bread with a variety of toppings, a sort of mini-antipasto set in miniature trays at their place settings.
The spreads included hummus, tibouli, roasted garlic and Kalamata olives.
An assortment of entrees matched each guest’s dinner preference with the menu of his or her choice.
Reaction of party guests and the guest of honor was a combination of amazement and enjoyment.
"There is something about creating a beautiful and elegant event out of something that’s no so beautiful or elegant," the event team says.
A long view.
A stunning setting.
The beautiful table.
