Who’s News in Special Events for May 9, 2019

Special events business news this week includes a new CEO at Extraordinary Events and a new EVP at GPJ.

Margaret Launzel-Pennes has joined Sherman Oaks, Calif.-based Extraordinary Events as chief executive officer. She will partner with Extraordinary Events' founder and president Andrea Michaels to expand the boutique experiential agency's portfolio and its services to both existing and new clients, the company said.

Chicago-based Total Event Resources has announced that Jill Best has joined the company as a senior event producer.

Auburn Hills, Mich.-based George P. Johnson has announced the promotion of Fiona Bruder to executive vice president of client success. She will be responsible for overseeing and managing the agency’s key global accounts, including IBM, Redhat, Facebook, Macy’s and AMEX, while leading GPJ’s offices in Boston, New York and Austin, Texas.

Minneapolis-based MetroConnections has announced its latest additions to the team: Danielle Miles and David Everett. Miles comes to MetroConnections as the manager of conferences and meetings; Everett is MetroConnections’ newest sales manager and also an experienced event designer.

Stefany Arias has joined New York-based Cerbelli Creative as event and project manager.

Scrub Island Resort, Spa and Marina in the British Virgin Islands has appointed Chloe St-Cyr as executive chef of the luxury resort, located on a private island.

Christophe Berger has been named director of conventions for the island state of Malta.

ITA Group Holdings of West Des Moines, Iowa, has announced that Tom Mahoney will retire as chief executive officer effective Aug. 31. He will remain as chairman of the board of directors and will work with the board of ITA Group Holdings subsidiary Hartmann Studios to ensure a successful transition of leadership. Mahoney has been with the organization since 1987 and has served as CEO since 2009. Current ITA group president and chief operating officer Brent Vander Waal will become president and CEO of ITA Group Holdings effective Sept. 1.
