Special events business news this week includes the new managing director at Destination Concepts Inc.

Nicole Campos has been named managing director of San Diego-based Destination Concepts Inc., included on the latest Special Events Magazine “25 Top DMCs.”

The International Live Events Association presented the 2020 Esprit Awards and Spirit of Excellence Awards during the ILEA Awards Celebration on Aug. 21. Combining the Esprit and Spirit of Excellence ceremonies into one program for the first time, the live virtual show was powered by CORT Events. Hong Kong-based Pico Group, included on the latest Special Events Magazine “50 Top Event Companies,” announced yesterday that its Global International Convention and Exhibition (Tianjin) Co. Ltd. subsidiary has entered a strategic alliance with Tianjin Binhai New Area Cultural Center Investment Management Co. for the development of the Binhai Cultural Center at Tianjin’s Binhai New Area in China. GICE will work to create smart venues and improve exhibition and convention management capabilities. The alliance will also explore providing operational services for tech-enabled venues, the performing arts industry, and for exhibition and convention industry development.

Big exhibitions company GES has announced the results of its study of 1,300 event attendees in June and July. The research uncovered five distinct attendee segments based on their COVID-19 perception of risk assessment and mitigation requirements, including temperature checks, mandatory face masks, and sanitation. The respondents in these segments ranged from having no concerns returning to shows to being highly concerned about COVID-19 and not believing in mitigation. The study revealed that 88 percent of respondents are open to attending shows in person. Overall, the results indicated that 65 percent demand some form of mitigation to attend, while 23 percent prefer no mitigation. Find details here.

The Professional Convention Management Association and Korea MICE Association have announced a two-year strategic agreement to provide bolstered support to members of both organizations to equip them for the post-COVID return through specialized training programs. A key component of the partnership will focus on the delivery of PCMA’s digital event strategist course in Korea in a move to ensure event planners are skilled in designing and delivering hybrid and digital events.
