Pantone Names ‘Living Coral’ Color of the Year for 2019

The color is "vibrant yet mellow," Pantone says, an ideal antidote for our digital-driven world.

Calling it “animating and life-affirming,” the color “Living Coral” is color of the year for 2019, the Panton Color Institute said today.

The Pantone Color Insitute highlights top seasonal runway colors, forecasts global color trends, and advises companies on color for product and brand visual identity. For 20 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in industries including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product, packaging and graphic design.

“Living Coral”—AKA Pantone 16-1546—is “vibrant yet mellow,” the institute says. It “embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.”

The sociable, nurturing color is also a reaction to the “onslaught of digital technology” and gives society the “authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy," according to the institute. "Symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression.”
