Bedside Reading®, the luxury hotel amenity that places a wide variety of complimentary books by the bedsides in luxury hotels and boutique properties, is proud to announce its new program, BEDSIDE READING on the download. Created in response to  COVID-19 and launching this month, BEDSIDE READING on the download, is a clean, green and touchless book and podcast program for meeting, event and incentive planners, delivering the same quality of books it has always delivered to hotels and their guests – but this time it provides curated and customizable digital books to engage event, meeting and training audiences. They can also be used as a loyalty reward or as part of a virtual gift bag. Mission Critical was the first virtual meeting to collaborate with Bedside Reading’s new program.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) released a new survey last week that underscores the devastating results for the hotel industry. Seventy-four percent (74%) of hotels would be forced to lay off additional employees and two-thirds of hotels (67%) would not make it another six months if Congress fails to pass another COVID stimulus bill. As a follow up, below is a breakdown of this impact by state. Here is a link to a pdf version of the state by state data.

L.A. Comic Con is going forward with a live convention this coming December. Organizers say they have been working with the L.A. Convention Center, public health and city officials and believe they have the plans and procedures in place to open safely with full COVID-19 precautions. L.A. Comic Con will take place Friday, Dec. 11 through Sunday, Dec. 13, with a morning and an evening session each day. Organizers say they have rented out the entire LA Convention Center so they can manage lines, waiting and events over the convention center’s 800,000 square feet of exhibit and panel room space with appropriate social distancing.

Compared to last year’s event, which had 42,000 attendees, the planned 2020 event will be limited to 13,500 attendees, each of whom will have a minimum of 28 square feet of space – the equivalent of standing in a circle with a 6-foot diameter, event organizers said. Ticket sales will be limited to no more than 12,000 tickets at any individual session of the event.
