Special events business news this week includes a new acquisition from Opus Agency.

Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M., has announced Chrisie Smith as its new director of sales, marketing and events. 

Portland, Ore.-based Opus Agency announced this week that it is acquiring Level 2 Design, based in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., which specializes in technical design and production. Level 2 founder and president Tommy Melancon will join the Opus leadership team, offering strategic guidance and support.

The Los Angeles Convention Center has promoted Ellen Schwartz to general manager. Additionally, Brad Gessner has been promoted to senior vice president.

Dallas-based Quest Events has announced that it has acquired Totally Mod, with operations in Orlando, Fla., and Las Vegas. The company also announced the opening of a new office in Toronto, located at 355 Admiral Blvd, Unit #1, Mississauga, Ontario, L5T 2M8, Canada. The new office will provide pipe, drape and scenic rental solutions to the greater Toronto area, advancing new and existing client relationships.

Arnold, Md.-based Core-apps, a technology platform for the events industry, announced that Scott Andryk has joined the company as senior manager, national corporate sales.

Tempe Fourth Fest 2018 from Creative Backstage and Chauvet Professional.

The team from Phoenix-based Creative Backstage in concert with Chauvet Professional oversaw the creation of the July 4 fireworks festival stage show in Tempe, Ariz.

Big DMC management group Euromic has announced that Christophe Verstraete will be leaving the team.

Montage Laguna Beach in Laguna Beach, Calif., has appointed Victor Casanova as the new chef de cuisine of The Loft restaurant.
