ISES Brings Resource Room to CPD

This year's ISES Conference for Professional Development, to be held Aug. 18-21 at the Adam's Mark Indianapolis Downtown hotel, will introduce a new conference attraction: the interactive Resource Room. The room will feature media materials including chapter newsletters, fund-raising initiatives and Web-site displays, and will be “a great place to network,” according to conference chair Dana Zita, CSEP.

She adds that the room “is not a vendor room, but more like a library,” and is intended to offer conference attendees a casual meeting environment and resources for improving the productivity of their businesses. Participating industry organizations and “special interest groups with a focus on cutting-edge technology” will be able to display their materials in a space Zita says she hopes will become a hub of the conference. To ensure that all attendees have a chance to experience the Resource Room, conference planners have slated all conference refreshment breaks to take place in the space.

CMP Conclave Offers Education Oppertunity

A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame welcome event will kick off the 2001 CMP Conclave, to be held at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel Tower City Center in Cleveland Aug. 17-18.

The annual conference will allow CMPs to contribute their expertise to the CMP program by preparing test questions for future examinations, according to Susan Krug, vice president of the Convention Industry Council, the association that organizes the event. Questions, which will be written and submitted in a secure environment, will then be added to the CMP question bank and incorporated into future certification tests.

This year attendees will also have an opportunity to participate in a continuing education session that will examine how technology is affecting the meeting planning industry. Krug says that the seminar subject matter comes out of the development of the new CIC manual, which includes timely material on technology and legal issues affecting the industry.

The deadline for registration for the 2001 Conclave is July 17.
