Most Outstanding Spectacle

Susan Davis International Washington, D.C. A four-day event marking the public dedication of the "Women in Military Service for America Memorial" in Washington, D.C., included a gala dinner, a reception, the dedication ceremony, a candlelight march, memorial service and several smaller events. Preparations included design, theme development, logistics coordination and on-site management. More than 35,000 guests attended the celebration.

Event Management Company Madison, Wisconsin Hughes family members wanted to honor their 150-year tradition of farming in Wisconsin and to join the state's sesquicentennial celebration. They turned to event planner and family member Andrea Hughes, who turned their family farm into a tourist attraction. The focal point of the event was a 10-acre maze shaped like the state of Wisconsin cut into their cornfield, featuring 2.5 miles of paths that formed a farm scene. Hospitality tents, helicopter rides, entertainment and a petting zoo completed the experience.

LD Systems Houston LD Systems designed and contracted all elements that brought together "Sky Power Over Houston," the largest laser-light and fireworks show in North America. City buildings as high as 1,200 feet were illuminated in a multitude of colors when more than 60 buildings became the stage from which to launch pyrotechnics and mount large format lighting. The event ended with a light and fireworks show across the sky set to diverse music. The presentation was seen by more than a million people, covered 144 city blocks and was visible 360 degrees around the city.

Warner Bros. Movie World Bottrop-Kirchhellen, Germany Warner Bros. Movie World's special event department was asked to coordinate the exclusive presentation of BMW's new 3 Series sedan at the movie and entertainment park. The event, featuring exhibitions, dinners, workshops and test drives, revolved around the theme "Substance and Passion." More than 5,400 BMW sales and service personnel from four countries participated.
