The launch of a TV ad campaign for M&M candies was a sly blending of humor and branding at an event staged Thursday by Hollywood-based Rabin Rodgers Inc.
Six geodesic domes—one for each M&M color—situated on a parking lot on Hollywood Boulevard offered celebrity guests and M&M contest winners a chance to sip cocktails and munch on M&Ms. The M&M brand was sprinkled liberally throughout the event, from initials on oversize ottomans to T-shirts of service staff to silver “candy” plaques on the structure walls.
In a yellow mood: Daisies, ottomans and mirror balls brighten the yellow dome (left).
The obligatory red carpet snaked past VW Beetles, part of the prize package, as well as a a photo backdrop wall festooned with M&M images.
